Uber Visa Card Review – Up to 4% Cash Back

Here’s a credit card that rewards you for unique spending habits other than gas and groceries. If a good chunk of your monthly budget is spent dining out, online shopping or on streaming services, you might want to use this card to pay for it. We’ll tell you how you can earn up to 4% cash back in our Uber Visa Card Review.

Uber Visa Card Review

As if it wasn’t already targeted towards millennials, Uber is at it again, this time with a branded credit card with millennial-centric rewards. Of course, you don’t have to be a millennial to appreciate the rewards you can earn on this Visa, especially if they fit your spending style. Here’s what you need to know.

Uber Visa Card $100 Bonus

The Uber Visa Card has a straightforward cash back rewards system, which is nice. Right now, you can get a $100 bonus when you spend $500 in purchases within the first 90 days of card ownership. That’s a pretty decent bonus for a very low introductory spend, so it shouldn’t be difficult to get there if you decide to open this card.

Everyday Cash Back Rewards

Like I said, the Uber Visa Card is very much geared towards millennials, who generally spend more on dining out than older generations. The card offers the following cash back rewards categories:

  • 4% cash back on dining, including restaurants, takeout, bars, and UberEATS orders
  • 3% cash back on hotels and airfare, including vacation home rentals
  • 2% cash back on online purchases, including Uber rides, online shopping, and video and music streaming services
  • 1% cash back on all other purchases

Many cash back rewards credit cards skew to family-friendliness by prioritizing grocery and gas spending. But this one is great for people whose budgets don’t involve giant Saturday runs to Costco or filling up a minivan for a week full of running to kid activities. If you dine out with friends often, travel frequently, and shop online a lot, this could be a great cash back card for you.

Plus, it comes with other benefits, including:

  • $600 in mobile phone damage/theft insurance when you use the card to pay your phone bill
  • $50 subscription credit for online streaming services when you spend $5,000 or more on the card in a year; options include Apple Music, Pandora, Spotify, Audible, Sirius XM, HBO NOW, and more
  • Access to exclusive events across the U.S.
  • No foreign transaction fees
  • Rewards that are redeemable for Uber credits, gift cards, or cash back through an app
  • No annual fee

Fees and APR

This card has a fairly high APR and no balance transfer deal, so don’t plan to carry a balance on it at any point.

  • APR – 16.75%, 22.49% or 25.49% based on creditworthiness (including for balance transfers)
  • Cash Advance APR – 26.75%
  • Minimum Interest Charge – $0.50
  • Annual Fee – $0
  • Balance Transfer Fee – $10 or 3% of the transfer amount, whichever is greater
  • Cash Advance Fee – $10 or 3% of the cash advance amount, whichever is greater
  • Foreign Transaction Fee – 0%
  • Late/Returned Payment – Up to $37 (varies by state)

Uber Visa Card Pros and Cons

As with all credit cards, this one has good and bad features:

  • Great cash back rewards in high-reward categories. A full 4% cash back is never something to turn up your nose at.
  • Excellent additional free benefits, including the phone insurance and streaming credit.
  • Not much spending required to earn the cash back bonus.
  • No annual fee makes it easy to use this card without worrying about getting enough cash back rewards to cover the annual fee.

  • High APR and balance transfer fees, so don’t plan to carry a balance on this card.
  • Relatively low cash back bonus, compared with other cash back credit cards.

Who is It Right For?

The Uber Visa Card is a great option if you want straightforward cash back rewards. It’s also a good fit if your spending patterns line up with this card’s bonus categories. Or you could use a different card for grocery and gas spending, but pull this one out for dining out, hotels and airfare, and some online purchases.

As with all credit cards, this one will depend on your creditworthiness. Also, it’s got a relatively high APR–between 16.74% and 25.49% depending on your credit score. And it doesn’t have a balance transfer or introductory APR offer, so don’t consider using it for that.

Generally, though, if you’re looking for a decent cash back rewards card with an easy redemption system, this is one worth considering.
