So how are we saving energy when we are a 24 hour society? I work nights and deliver to hospitals and steel mills, all of who are operating 24 hours a day. Even traffic lights are operating all night long. Stores are closed and yet they still have the lights on. And the parking lot lights are still on. So how are we saving energy? More accidents are due to the confusion af people not knowing what time it is. Now everyone is running late and not paying attention to their surroundings.

It seems that none of the studies cited take into account latitude and longitude of the several states. I can see that DST could result in the benefits listed if you limit your observations to the northeast part of the U.S. If you live further south and on the western edge of the time zone, those benefits might not occur – and in fact the change can be detrimental. Arizona went to daylight savings for a time, but because of out position to the west and south, we had children waiting for school busses in the dark. As the summer progresses, temperatures get over 110ºF in the afternoon; having more time in the sunlight is definitely not what you have in mind. Arizona is now one of the few states that do not observe DST, and we like it that way, thank you very much.

I’m really surprised that the effects of DST due to regional differences were not taken into account.

Actually DST was instituted by Kingsford Charcoal during the Nixon administration under the guise of saving energy. It was a ruse because Kingsford knew that they could sell more charcoal if they started daylight savings by two months. The corporation got its lobbyists to petition congress to pass the law extending it. It makes sense because more people would be able to barbecue after they got home from work. You can't barbecue in the dark.

"If you are old enough to remember the Carter Administration, than you remember the long lines for gas and the 1973 Arab Oil Embargo"

Really? The '73 Arab Oil Embargo, occured during Nixon's administration. Carter, inhereted the results of the embargo...plus a huge pile of debt by former administrations. Republicans, will re-write history, with, or without the facts. LOL.
