In just a few hours, America’s most talented vocalists and performers will be recognized during the 53rd Grammy Awards celebration. If you didn’t realize that tonight was Grammy night, that’s OK, because until this post, neither did I. The reason I bring it up is because the Grammy Awards is right in the middle of award season, with the Golden Globes and SAG awards already happening and the Emmy, Tony and Academy Awards to follow. There are just too many awards shows to count now-a-days and it drives me nuts.
When these awards shows were first introduced thirty, forty and sometimes more than fifty years ago, they were not televised and they were a lot shorter. Now, with horror movie awards, MTV teen choice and music awards and everything else they’re giving awards for these days, it seems every Sunday, one of the major networks has a red carpet special. Reminds me of the kids that get awards simply because they played a sport growing up. Everybody wins something, yea for everyone.
I’m simply all awarded out. In high school, I use to love watching the Academy Awards because it game me and my friends an excuse to view all of the movies up for best picture a few days before, as well as the ones for best actor/actress and best director. Now, a lot more than five movies are up for the best picture award and with a few dozen other awards to sit through, the night drags on and on and on. Can we go back to the good ‘ole days where it meant something to win an award? Where the awards show was two hours long instead of five?
Ending on a positive note, let’s take a look at the best money articles for the week:
States Without State Income Taxes @ PT Money: Thankfully, I live in a state without income taxes and can’t even imagine what I would do if I had to fork over another portion of my income. With self employment taxes, I’m already stretched thin.
Stores Can’t Ask for ZIP Code When Paying by Credit Card @ The Consumerist: I’m not sure what is more ridiculous; the fact that stores would ask you for this useless piece of information or that it was debated in a court of law.
Why the 100 Best Companies To Work For List Is Useless @ The Huffington Post: I read these kinds of posts all the time, but never put stock into what they mean, because I’ve never worked for any of them. Good to see I wasn’t wasting my time!
Five Awesome Alternatives To Groupon @ Wise Bread: Anyone who happened to find the ads offensive can begin looking for alternatives to Groupon coupons. Hey, that rhymes!
How To Get Groceries for Free @ MSN Money: Know that these methods are not for those that can afford to pay for their own groceries, rather for those that cannot. Some great tips here for anyone in need.
