Funny, if a programmable thermostat doesn’t save you money, you’re not using it correctly. At the absolute worst case, it shouldn’t increase your heating and cooling bills, but add convenience.

Wow! Excellent list.

Wish it were true that (MAN! IS THAT AN ANNOYING POP-UP AD!!! How does it override one’s pop-up blocker?) programmable thermostats cut your power bills. I’ve found reality to be exactly the opposite. At best, if I sit and shiver all winter and sweat all summer, it doesn’t raise the bill much. Next project: take the thing out and put the old round one back!

Great article and good advice. I tell people to stop buying what you cannot afford with money you do not have. This is step number one. The rest will fall into place.
