The Dough Roller Weekly Roundup (26 August 2007)
Here are some of the best money articles from the past week:
- How to Make Money in the Stock Market (Revisited) @ Five Cent Nickel: This is a great historical perspective on the stock market and how holding tight during a falling market can reap rich rewards.
- The Best Kept Secret for Avoiding Debt @ Cheufong.com: This is a great Steve Martin SNL video from You Tube on staying out of debt. It's a must view. And thanks to Gather Little By Little for linking to the article, which is how I found it.
- Good Debt?? There is No Such Thing @ Gather Little By Little: Speaking of Gather Little By Little, here is a good reminder that good debt versus bad debt is not really the best way to look at it. Isn't it really a choice between bad debt and really bad debt? I'm not so sure, but read the article and decide for yourself.
- Twenty Great Nuggets of Personal Finance Advice @ Get Rich Slowly: Taken from a Money Magazine article, the quotes and wisdom are priceless.
- Getting a Good Night's Sleep @ plonkee money: This article describes a debate over investing between The Simple Dollar and All Financial Matters. Plonkee takes a look at being comfortable with your investments, which is definitely worth reading. I want to add some commentary. I have a high stress job. Several years ago at a previous employer I went in to talk to my boss about a particular project. The problem was, from my perspective, that I was up all night worrying about the project, worrying that we were missing something or not doing all things that needed done. And I was seeking some advice on how to approach the project without so much angst. My boss responded simply thus, "We get paid to worry." He was right. And I worry about my investments all the time. I try not to obsess. But when it comes to my family's investments, it's my job to worry. And if your investments are keeping you up at night, the problem may not be your investments.
- Trent Let Me Down @ All Financial Matters: Speaking of the argument, here it is. Please don't dismiss this debate as two bloggers just having a friendly debate. Your financial future will depend, in part, on how you handle the stress of a down market.
- My One Money Advice: Be Prepared for a Rainy Day @ The Digerati Life: You won't find better advice than this.
- Weekend Wisdom: There are no Fire Escapes. . . @ The Financial Philosopher: I always enjoy the Philosopher's articles, and this one is no exception. He talks about the recent problems in the credit markets and how to take advantage of them.
- How Much Money Do You Need For Retirement? Here’s How I’m Figuring My Number @ The Simple Dollar: Financial goals are critical to success, and Trent talks about The Goal, retirement.
Enjoy!
