Mitch, you forgot moron, blockhead, numskull, retard, chuckle head, half wit, dunderhead, cretin, and boob. I recognize that it's popular to bash Microsoft. And in some cases Microsoft deserves the bashing. I buy Macs because I lost my patience with Windows. But the reality is that if Microsoft succeeds in acquiring Yahoo!, it will be a very significant development in the online advertising and search engine markets. And if you don't believe me, just look at Google's first response to Microsoft's announcement--a call to its anti-trust lawyers.

This guy is CLUELESS about the tech. business. Probably jumped in only a few years ago. Only an IDIOT would make such a comment that anything Microsoft does is 'good' for anything. Stupid! Nothing could be further from the truth..

Microsoft is PURE evil. No substance. NEVER invented a thing!

It'll certainly be interesting to see what happens. I'd like for there to be a good advertising alternative if Google gives me a random boot like they have other people.

Yeah, I'm afraid I just don't see it. Microsoft has never once delivered innovation to the marketplace. They're really great at taking new technology and making money off it, but they succeed by suppressing competition with their huge market base rather than by working to produce a better product at a better price.

Yes, I see slightly higher ad revenues in the near future if the acquisition goes through, but in the long run, we'll just have another use of windows/IE making Microsoft more money by monopolizing ads.

Yeah, I'm cynical, but Microsoft has proven itself extremely adept at pushing as close to a monopoly as allowed and squeezing customers at all angles to make as much money as possible. They could change, but it wouldn't make much business sense given their successes in the past.

I definitely think a strong competitor for Google would be good for bloggers and the Internet in general.

However, I have a hard time seeing how this will be a successful merger. Both companies have a search engine, they both have an ad network, Microsoft is a business software company, and Yahoo is a content company. My opinion is that the combination will add up to a big mess, but of course only time will tell. Hopefully I am wrong and something good will come out of it.

Microsoft will ruin Yahoo, and both of them will go down together into Search engine hell, I think.
And the worst thing is that Yahoo mail is likely to go with it :|

Google's price dropped significantly after hours (5-6%) when they announced earnings. I think only the last two is based on a Microsoft-Yahoo worry.

Google has plenty of cash to throw at innovation as well. They've been bringing over a billion a quarter for some time.

How strange is it to say this: I look forward to a Microsoft/Yahoo merger. Think of how you would have felt about that 10 years ago.
