Jonathan, let me first say that I am not an investment adviser, so if you are seeking professional advice, my recommendation would be to contact a local certified financial professional. A second option would be to contact an investment adviser at the mutual fund company you invest with. For example, Vanguard and Fidelity will help you with your investment decisions, and I've found them to be pretty good (I have both Fidelity and Vanguard funds). My hunch is that they will recommend TIPS, other bond and income funds. These funds won't guarantee you'll never lose money, but any losses should be a lot less that if you invested the majority of your money in stocks.

I am 74 years old and my wife is 72. We both are retired. We do not need income from investing, Our retirement pensions are sufficient. I would like a relative safe investment portfolio (asset allocation) that would provide growth and minimize losses during up/down markets. My objective is continous solid growth investments. I am in the process of rebuilding my portfolio. Any recommendations

This is a good idea but the exposure to the market's uncertainty unerves me a little. Have you ever expressed your thoughts about fixed indexed annuities? If not would you? Thanks - MW
