Green Dot Prepaid Reloadable MasterCard

Green Dot Prepaid Reloadable MasterCard BigThe Green Dot Reloadable MasterCard is a prepaid credit card ideal for those looking for the convenience of a credit card and the financial security of a debit card. The Green Dot prepaid credit card has no overdraft fees or minimum balance requirements. There is no credit check at the time of application, and you do not need a bank account to qualify.

Green Dot even offers free ATM withdrawals. At thousands of participating ATMs, there is no charge for cash withdrawals. Outside the network, the fee is $2.50 per withdrawal plus any fees charged by the ATM owner. You can reload the card at a store or by direct deposit of a paycheck or government check.

Prepaid Credit Card with Direct Deposit

The direct deposit is an important feature of the Green Dot Prepaid MasterCard for several reasons. First, you can earn a $4.95 credit to the card when you make your first MoneyPak cash load. And with direct deposit, you don’t have to worry about cashing or depositing checks. The funds simply get added to your Green Dot card automatically. And unlike expensive check cashing stores, direct deposit is free. You can choose to deposit part or all of your government (Social Security, IRS, Medicare, Unemployment, Disability, Welfare, Military, etc.) or payroll check, plus you can enroll multiple employers or payors. And remember, you can cancel your enrollment at any time.

Green Dot Fees

The fees associated with Green Dot prepaid credit cards depend in part on how the card is used. For example, as noted above, withdrawals from ATMs within the Green Dot network are free, while a small fee applies to use of an out of network ATM. In addition, the cost to buy a Green Dot card is up to $4.95, depending on the retailer. If you make 30 purchases or more in any month, there is no monthly fee. Otherwise, the cost is $5.95 per month.

Here’s a summary of the prepaid card’s key features:

  • Free Online! Save $4.95 over retail price
  • Free ATM withdrawals at thousands of ATMs
  • Monthly Charge waived when you make 30 purchases or load $1,000
  • Free Online Bill Pay
  • $4.95 Credit with your first MoneyPak cash load
  • No credit check, EVER
  • No bounced check fees or outrageous interest charges

The Greed Dot Prepaid Reloadable MasterCard is one of the best prepaid credit cards available to consumers today.  From top to bottom, this card performs where other prepaid cards do not.  To sign-up, visit the secure application page for the Green Dot Prepaid MasterCard using any link you see inside of this post.

An employee applied for a Green Dot Visa debit card. He gave me the 16 digit number on the card so that he could receive direct deposit of his payroll to that account. Is that 16 digit number the direct deposit number? I also need a 9 digit ABA number to do the process. Appreciate your help.Rosemarie BraceroPayroll Clerk

how long does it take from the web application to being able to use the card for online transactions?

Reply

As soon as the personalized card arrives, you activate it and load it then you can start using it.

One of the better all around cards out there today and basically free which is less than some bank accounts although the cash reload fee needs to come down $5 is usurious.

I get money from Switzerland and Germany once a month. Can I have this money credited from those places to the card instead of wired to my bank account?

Brenda, you can reload a Green Dot card online through a transfer from a bank account. You should see the info you need when you log into your account.

DONT BUY THIS July 16, 2010 at 5:37 pm

DON’T!!!! BUY THIS CARD its a scam, your might never get to use the money on it. They charge to put money on card, use ATM, and initial card purchase fee, a monthly fee and stress and might even charge you for getting costumer service. Its a rip off and stress. Just go to your trusted bank and get a debit card, it most of the time free, or sign up for rewards program which is $25 a year , less than 2.25 a month, and you get free stuff, no stress, and in the end its cheaper. And libility protection.

DONT BUY THIS, I already did and the card works great. I ordered online and they charge me nothing for the card. While there is a fee to load cash on the card, there is no fee for direct deposit or bank transfers. And depending on how much you load on the card each month, they will waive the monthly fee (which is only $5.95 a month otherwise). This is also the company behind the Walmart prepaid card. I’m not saying that a bank isn’t a great alternative, too, but Green Dot is by no means a scam. In fact, it is one of the most widely used prepaid cards available.

Cori, if you question is whether the IRS can garnish money on your card due to back taxes, I’m pretty sure the answer is yes.

is there any transaction fees for using the card like different charges for using debit or credit like netspend has they charge $2 for every debit and $1 for every credit?

Reply

DR October 13, 2010 at 4:57 am

Ashley, the Green Dot card does not have transaction fees when you use the card. There is a monthly fee of $5.95, but that fee is waived each month in which you at least $1,000 on the card or use the card 30 times for purchases.

They require a social security number which is total bullcrap. They don’t need your social.

DR October 20, 2010 at 9:23 am

Federal law requires prepaid card companies, along with just about every other financial institution, to get your social security number when you apply for an account. It’s part of the Fed’s fight against terrorism by trying stop money transfers they suspect are going to support a terrorist organization.

I got this card because I wanted to give it to a cousin of mine as a gift. Little did I know that you have to be 18 years of age in order to use it. I thought it was one of those one time credit cards that they sell anywhere. Anyway, now I have it and I am figuring I will just keep it and use it for all of my online purchasing so that I don’t have to use my checking account debit card. So my question is, does this pre-paid (green dot) credit card help you to build your credit?

How long does it take for a deposit to show up on the card from an employer? I’ve read other cards it takes up to 2 pay cycles. I need my money as soon as I can get it, I do not have the the time to wait. That is a huge turn off for me about these pre-paid cards.

so i just registered my card and i am under 18 and then at the end it said Your $5.95 Monthly Charge will be assessed on 1/1/2011. Keep in mind that i only got the one time temporary card because im under 18. so my question is am i still going to recieve the bill for $5.95 and if i will how do i pay since i dont have a credit card, i mean its not like im going to use it every month im just using it this month because after i use the money on it its done because i can not reload it or use it again. Your answer would really help me out a lot. Thank You

I’m not happy with my card seems I’m only allowed to reload set amounts of money to from the store. why can’t i reload whatever amount I want and not have to pay what green dot ‘s set amount .?Somebody tell me. It’s killing the purpose of keeping it aside from my bank card.

Reply

DR January 5, 2011 at 7:53 am

Goldie, it all depends on how you load the money onto your card. If you use direct deposit or a bank transfer, you can load whatever amount you want and it’s free. If you load cash, however, you will pay a fee and will be limited in amounts. That’s the case with all prepaid credit cards.

I RECENTLY BOUGHT A GREEN DOT CARD IM PRETTY SATISFIED OTHER THAN THE FACT THAT IT SAYS ON THE PACKET WHEN YOU BUY THE CARD THAT THEY WILL WAIT UNTIL 91 DAYS AFTER ACTIVATING YOUR CARD TO TAKE THE MONTHLY CARD FEE BUT THE ACTUALLY TAKE THE FEE AFTER 30 DAYS THAT JUST MADE ME FEEL LIKE THEY LIE TO THEIR CUSTOMERS. AND ONE MORE DOWNFALL IS THAT IT CHARGES YOU 4.95 EVERYTIME YOU WANT TO LOAD MONEY TO YOUR CARD FROM THE STORE OTHER THAN THAT THE CARD IS FINE.

Monica, if the Green Dot website has still not updated, call the number on the back of your card. A representative should be able to give you all the info you need.

Do I have to pay the fee every single month? What if I don’t want to use it anymore after a month and just keep it, is there still a fee?

Reply

DR February 11, 2011 at 6:02 am

Mios, there is a monthly fee, but it’s waived each month in which you either make at least 30 purchases with the card or load at least $1,000 on the card. If you don’t want to use the card anymore, consider canceling the card. You can always get another one later if you want. And if you get the Green Dot card online, there is no charge to get the card.

i dunno DR seems too confident about greendot. i just bought a prepaid visa from these guys after placing 15 dollars in it and i had 3 dollars in my balance by the time i activated it and started to use it. keep up with other comments on other websites use google and find out what other people really think of greendot. i gave my ssn and everything too so i hope i’m not in it as far as identity theft goes :/ i wonder why this company is still around?? they really shouldn’t have to ask for someones social security even with all of this patriot act stuff going on imo. i was scared of making online purchases because of potential scamming and fruad but i don’t know if getting a prepaid card outweighs the hidden charges from making risky online purchases at the risk of losing my identity. i don’t know if u guys know about Cricket wireless communications pay2go but its probably just as bad. you don’t really know where your money goes as you use your phone but as u check your balance, you kinda wonder where all your missing dollars start to go. i put in 20 bucks on my phone and its a dollar a day to use but each day i used my phone, they were charging me 5 bucks instead of 1 lol. well i guess i’m trying to say thats what prepaid visa companies like greendot might have been doing to my poor 15 dollar deposit. i guess its ok to lose a little money but luckily i didn’t put in 100-1000 like some of these other people did. i sympathize with their loss. i hope greendot gets their stuff together if they are gonna be around still. have u guys heard of http://www.transcash.com/ ?? i dunno i saw a comment saying they don’t require an ssn… o well. good luck peace out :)

I make over $4,000 a month and think I am pretty savvy about things and I must say – the GreenDot card I got to take with us on a trip worked so well and makes such good sense that i have changed my paycheck to a auto deposit into this Green dot account and then deposit any other checks or cash into my savings account. After all the new laws and BS coming out of Washington the new higher monthly fees and minimums on my checking account – on their debit cards (plus extra $$ to use a ATM) – costs so much more than this – it really is a no brainer. I just love it

Can I have my pay added to my temporary card? I went and bought one today and people are telling me I have to wait a week or two just to have the ACH transfer. Is this true and if so why was I not told about this before I bought it? I need my money today that is why I bought it today not to wait 2 weeks to have my money put on the card? what is the truth? can I use my temporary card or not? and now that I have opened it wal-greens will not refund my money!! what a rip!!

Reply

DR April 15, 2011 at 8:17 am

hazel, when you set up direct deposit to a prepaid card, it takes a week or two for the card and the bank and your employer to confirm that everything is working. Once it’s set up, however, the direct deposit should appear on your card on your payday.
