Earn $100 Cash Back with the Discover Business Card

by DR on June 6, 2008

Discover® Business CardEver since the Dough Roller and my other online sites started making money, I’ve considered getting a business credit card. The main reason was to give me an easy way to keep my business expenses separate from my personal expenses. Otherwise, it can be really time-consuming to figure out your business expenses at tax time, and that’s not smart money management. With a new $100 cash back offer from Discover Business Card, I think my decision just got easier. Here’s the deal.

With the Discover Business Card, you’ll receive $100 cash back if you use the card to make $1,000 in purchases in the first three months. If you’re running a business, $1,000 in the first three months will be no problem at all. I plan to buy a new laptop in the next three months, so that one purchase will be enough for me to earn the $100 cash back reward.

The card also comes with some other great features. There is no annual fee. You get 0% APR on purchases for up to 12 months, and 3.9% on balance transfers for up to 6 months. And you can earn additional cash back, up to 5%, on various purchases such as supplies and gas. As always, make sure you read the terms and conditions carefully to make sure you understand these rewards before applying.

Here are the details and how you can apply:

I should add that anyone can apply for a business credit card. Individuals can simply include their name for the business name and list their social security number as the tax id. The form of the business would be sole proprietor. I’ve applied for and obtained business credit cards this way, so it works.

* See the online Discover credit card applications for details about terms and conditions of reward programs and offers. Reasonable efforts are made to maintain accurate information. However all credit card information is presented without warranty. When you click on the ” Apply Here ” button you can review the credit card terms and conditions on the credit card issuer’s web site.

That’s a good idea — I’ve used a separate card for my side business for a long time. The biggest advantage to me is that it eliminates surprises on my personal credit card statement. We always pay the full amount each month, but having an extra $1200 for a new laptop can create a lively conversation with my wife. :-)

I just took things to the next step by opening an “electric orange” checking account at http://www.ingdirect.com — that should make bookkeeping even easier, and it keeps my business cash separate. If you search around on the web, you can find an offer for $50 when you open the account and use it a few times. I’m just getting started with that account, but it looks good so far.
