Win a $100 Gift Card Courtesy of American Express

When it comes to buying Christmas gifts, I’m not much of a planner. As a result, in most years my shopping involves a lot of last minute panicked runs to Best Buy or the mall. Of course, every year I tell my self I’ll do better next year. But here I am on December 6, and I’ve still not purchased a single gift.

Holiday shopping habits like mine inspired American Express to create a holiday gifting personality program – to help consumers find out their inner “holiday gifting personality” as well as provide tips on how to better manage their money and spend smarter during the holiday season. So I took the American Express Holiday Gifting Personality Quiz (it’s a Facebook app).

And it turns out I’m an “over gifter.” That doesn’t really surprise me. Here’s the description of an over gifter:

Your generous spirit and desire to get something for everyone is one of the things people love about you. The challenge is that your generosity can sometimes get you in trouble if you don’t have a spending plan to keep that growing gift list in check. Take advantage of some great tools to help manage and track holiday spending like American Express® Money Manager.

In support of this program, AmEx has challenged me to find the perfect holiday gifts for friends or family using my Premier Rewards Gold Card Membership Rewards points – 150,000 of them! Needless to say, I was totally up for the challenge! And the people I’ve decided to shop for are my mom, my son and daughter (both teenagers), and my wife.

Over the next few weeks, I’ll be scouring the Membership Rewards site to find the perfect gifts, starting with my mom, and telling you about the cool stuff I’m able to get by redeeming my rewards points. Although I’ve carried an American Express card for a long time, I’ve always used my points for travel. So shopping with points is a new experience for me. One of the cool thing is that you can now use Amex points to shop for just about anything. She is a middle school teacher in desperate need of a laptop, so I’ll be using some Amex points to buy a laptop for her, which I’ll write about later this week.

But that’s not all! In the spirit of discovering how you all shop for holiday gifts, you’ll have a chance to win a $100 retail gift card courtesy of American Express! To enter, visit the American Express Facebook page and take the Gifting Quiz and discover your gifting personality. Then let me know what type of gifter you are by including the result in the comments of this (and my other challenge posts). At the end of the contest, I’ll select one lucky reader (at random) to receive the gift card. It’s a simple as that!

the quiz says I’m a Creative gifter.

You’re the one who likes to create a one-of-a-kind gift for your friends and family. Look for ways to create a memorable experience for your loved ones this holiday without doubling the time and effort you tend to spend on gift giving each year by using your American Express Card to get access to advance ticket sales and much more.

Creative Gifter! What a shock!
Seriously, though, I think if you’re a regular on DR, you’re probably a creative gifter. It’s all about finding a way to accomplish your goal in a personal, manageable way! That’s what DR is all about, right?
