Last month we announced our 2008 giving goal for The Dough Roller of $10,000. As regular readers know, we contribute 50% of gross income from this site to charity. We’ve chosen Common Hope to receive these donations, an organization in Guatemala dedicated to the education of Guatemala’s children. I’m happy to report that in February 2008, tDR received $1,754 in revenue, resulting in a donation to Common Hope of $877. That brings our total donations to Common Hope in 2008 to $2,210.
The remaining revenue was transferred in varying amounts to Sharebuilder, Prosper and Lending Club. Through ShareBuilder we invest in B shares of Berkshire Hathaway. The shareholders meeting for Berkshire will be held in Omaha in May, and although she doesn’t know it yet, I’ll be talking to Mrs. Dough about making the trip. We also invest in loans at both Prosper and Lending Club. The loans are still relatively new, but so far all payments have been made on time by the borrowers, and one borrower repaid the loan in full in the first month. To date, our total balance in all of these investments is $2,017.
Every month that I update these investments I’m going to repeat the following–small amounts of money, invested regularly, grow to substantial sums. When I started this site, my first month’s revenue was about $20. Last month it was over $1,700. My investments in Sharebuilder, Prosper and Lending Club do not involve huge sums of money. But over time, they will grow into substantial sums of money. It’s what I call making a mountain out of a molehill. I hope you do the same thing with your money in what ever investments you decide are best for you.
