Perkstreet Banner With one week to go before the new year is upon us, PerkStreet is offering new account holders a $25 cash bonus, simply after signing up for an online checking account and making at least a $25 deposit.  PerkStreet is already our favorite online checking account because of the rewards each account holder has the potential to earn but with a $25 cash bonus, now is the time to sign-up and take advantage.

PerkStreet is relatively unknown in the banking world but over the last 12 months, they’ve certainly done everything they can to make a name for themselves.  First, they offered an gift card for signing up, then rewarded customers with up to 2% cash back on all purchases.  Now, PerkStreet is offering a $25 cash bonus for signing up, 2% cash back on all purchases and the opportunity to earn 5% cash back on select purchases each and every month.

PerkStreet Reward Details

The $25 cash bonus is available from now until December 31st 2010 (Update: Expired).  After you’ve signed up for a PerkStreet checking account and made a $25 deposit, the $25 will be credited to your account within 7 business days.  Then, depending on your account balance, every purchase you make is eligible for 2% cash back.  The cash back amount is tiered based on the following two possibilities:

  1. Starting day balance of more than $5,000 will earn 2% cash back on all purchases
  2. Starting day balance of less than $5,000 will earn 1% cash back on all purchases

Finally, each and every month, PerkStreet will offer 5% cash back on select retailers throughout the year.  Until January 31st, 2012, PerkStreet is offering 5% cash when making purchases at the following merchants:

  • Art Supply, Craft, and Fabric Stores
  • Sport and Athletic Clubs
  • TurboTax®

If you’re in need of an online checking account to make your everyday purchases and 0.5% interest isn’t doing it for you, consider signing up for a PerkStreet checking account.  The $25 cash bonus offer is for a limited time only but it would appear the 2%/5% cash back opportunities are here to stay.

I signed up for PerkStreet a few weeks ago. Just waiting for my debit card to come in the mail. I got my $25 in perks :) Also, the customer service is awesome; I’ve been communicating with their Social Media rep via Twitter, and she’s been on it, trying to track down my card (since it didn’t arrive the day it was supposed to). Looking forward to the cash back.

It is really nice to get money back no doubt, but as the previous post points out, sometimes the little bit of money you get isn’t worth the hassle. As she said, her card didn’t come when expected. Now, she will have worry about it coming, maybe call customer service 10 or 20 times and wait on hold hours and hours and then spend even more time redeeming her reward. Is that worth $25? I always tell my clients to ask themselves, what is my time worth?
