Carnival of Personal Finance (@ Get Rich Slowly) and Lifehacker

by DR

On Monday, JD at Get Rich Slowly hosted the Carnival of Personal Finance. JD selected my article on 401k and IRA retirement accounts as an editor's pick. From that, Gina at Lifehacker picked up the piece and linked to it as well. As a result, thousands have read the article, and many have left great comments to further the discussion. A big thanks to JD and Gina!

JD hosted a great carnival, including clips from old Christmas videos throughout the post. JD selected two other articles written by M-Network members as editor's picks: Things I wish I knew when I was 18 (Being Frugal) and Five golden rules for “snowflaking’” (Paid Twice). Congrats to both Being Frugal and Paid Twice. In addition to JD's other editor's picks, here are some of the articles I really enjoyed:

  • Should You Prepay Your State and Local Taxes? (@ Tax Update Blog). As the end of the year approaches, it's a good time to brush up on the tax implications of prepaying certain potentially deductible expenses.
  • Index Funds vs. ETFs (@ The Honest Dollar). This great post comes from Lily, a new personal finance blogger. The article does a nice job comparing the costs associated with index funds and ETFs assuming certain investing time horizons and buying frequencies.
  • Would Peter Lynch Invest in CROCS? (@ ChristianPF). This piece is an interesting take on Peter Lynch's investment philosophy.
  • The Five-Minute Retirement Plan (@The Financial Philosopher). A thought provoking look at what retirement means to us all.

Enjoy!

Thanks for the link. Totally my pleasure to link back to your 401(k) article — it was exactly what I had been looking for but couldn’t find anywhere on the web. Keep up the great work!
